Bonsai growers in Kinashi and Kokubunji areas are located here in Takamatsu. Every bonsai has its own individual character and you'll find your favorite one among various shapes and sizes of bonsai. It is said that a view of bonsai nurseries is rather unusual and unique in the world. The nursery scenery of cultivated pine trees before potting are viewable here, and Kinashi and Kokubunji have the great production and cultivated area of bonsai.

Facing the Seto Inland Sea, this area has been successful in producing the pine bonsai since 200 years ago because of environmental factors, such as warm and dry weather conditions, suitable for growing pine trees.

Here we have several hundred years old pine bonsai trees. They have been handed down from generation to generation by the bonsai masters in these areas.

Many bonsai lovers came from all over the world to participate.
They appreciated the bonsai exhibitions held in Tamamo Park and many demonstrations were offered by local bonsai artists.
This conference was highly successful!

The traditions and skills of the Japanese bonsai artists were demonstrated and gained an even higher reputation. Some demonstration displayed bonsai utilizing the space facing the Seto Inland Sea which is much like the Mediterranean Sea overlooking rows of houses in Takamatsu. Others exhibited bonsai at local historical sites as well as traditional Japanese buildings and gardens.

Takamatsu's 'Bonsai Boom'

The amount of bonsai exports from Takamatsu has increased rapidly as a result of ASPAC (Asia-Pacific Bonsai & Suiseki Convention and Exhibition).
Approximately 20,000 bonsai were exported to the EU countries, the USA and Taiwan in 2012. Also the number of bonsai lovers from overseas, who visit the bonsai nurseries in both the Kinashi and Kokubunji areas, are increasing nowadays. Ages vary but many of them are in there 30s and 40s. Reasons of their visit are;

It's not unusual for bonsai supporters to stay longer at the bonsai growers. So, each of the bonsai artisan is working on ways to better answer supporters needs.


It seems some of exchanges among various countries will start at Kinashi and Kokubunji areas in Takamatsu, Japan. These two areas have been revered places in the world of bonsai and atrtract a worldwide following of bonsai lovers.
